Featured Artist

The Salt River has inspired photographers, painters, sculptors, writers, and other artists whose work captures the beauty, history, and spirit of this remarkable landscape. Salt River Truth’s Featured Artist series explores the people behind that work, their connection to the Salt River, and the unique perspectives they bring to the story of Arizona’s wild horses.

Our next Featured Artist is Kim Koubek, an Arizona wildlife photographer whose love of nature deepened after moving to the state in 2008. Exploring Arizona’s deserts and mountains inspired her to use photography to capture and share the wildlife and landscapes she encountered. In recent years, the Salt River wild horses have become especially meaningful to her, inspiring both her photography and her passion for their protection.

Through her photographs, Kim seeks to capture the horses’ beauty, strength, spirit, and family bonds—portraying them as they are: wild, free, and an integral part of Arizona’s history. Her love of wildlife also takes her beyond the Salt River, from the brown bears of Alaska to the grizzlies, bison, and moose of Yellowstone.
